Scoring early and often, Mankato advanced to the finals of the Junior Upper Midwest Classic in New Ulm Sunday.

A four-run rally in the last inning fell short as New Ulm Junior Legion fell 8-7 in the semi-finals of the Junior Upper Midwest Classic concluding today in New Ulm.

Rivals Mankato and New Ulm Jr. Legion reached the semi-finals of the Junior Upper Midwest Classic and will play Sunday morning to advance to the championship game.

New Ulm Journal announced its 2009 all-Journal softball team Thursday including players to represent Cathedral, New Ulm High School and MVL.
